In the province of Mae Hong Son, the population continues to face major challenges. The district of Sobmeiy today provided relief supplies to support the Red Cross in Mae Sariang to help the citizens affected by the storm "Bualoi". District Administrator Khamphan Mokthaison gave the responsibility for the aid to his deputy, while seven volunteers and numerous helpers were available to support the situation. A total of 1,000 auxiliary packages were put together with vital foods and everyday objects. These packages are to be distributed primarily to the residents of the heavily affected areas in Mae Sariang and SobmeiY, where the storm has caused considerable damage.

The storm brought unchecked rains, which have already led to several floods in the past few days. Information from Thai Rath reports that the district manager of Mae Sariang, Worakarn Phanthong, who has instructed the authorities to provide help as soon as possible. An emergency center has been set up to record and support the direct need of those affected. In Ban Pha Mol, another seriously affected village, numerous evacuated animals have already been reported, which were brought to higher areas, while the school in Pha Mo had to close for two days due to the water collapse. All of these measures are urgently required, since the storm has already reported a death.

Challenges and effects

The location remains tense. According to Thai Rath, there are reports about landslides and blockages of streets that make access to some remote villages impossible. In Ban Sab Han, Moo 2, a bridge was badly damaged, which further restricts mobility. Damage to agricultural areas, houses and public facilities are also alarming. The authorities are actively on site to check the situation and provide first aid.

These devastating conditions also have the mobilization of the military and police to ensure the security of the citizens and to intensify the operational measures. Other units, including soldiers and employees of the national parks, have been activated to help clear the areas affected by landslides and floods. As the Bangkok Post reports, important traffic routes, such as the Highway 108, remain impassable due to flood damage.

Community cohesion

The measures to help the local authorities and the community show a strong cohesion in difficult times. The commitment of the volunteers and the security forces contributed to the fact that numerous people are not left alone in this crisis situation. All those affected can rely on the support of local authorities and aid organizations.

The situation continues to be observed closely, while the emergency center takes all the necessary measures in order to be as much as possible for people in Mae Hong Son. We will continue to pursue the developments and hope for a quick normalization of the situation.
