maya 2015 was a bit of an odd one for me. for some reason, maya could not save a scene, even though it was saved before the crash. this persisted through importing to.zip, and when i took a backup, even though the backup file was not corrupted, i could not view it. so i ran maya using setmaya auto, set the project defaults, re-imported the asset, and i was able to view the file. the scene was apparently saved, but it was empty. i had the same problem when i tried to export to a.zip file. maya would not save scene information, and the export of the project went fine, but i could not open the exported file.
there was a solution for this problem, which was to increase the default max memory to 12 gigabytes. this did not seem to work, so i ended up creating a new user account and trying to import the project. it failed with the same error, and import settings were not retained. when running with setmaya auto, i was able to create a scene, but it was empty.
so, i saw that there is a python script called autodesk-licensing that can address these issues. so, i changed the auto settings back to what it was before, and ran the script. maya still crashes, and the same empty project is created. the error i am getting is this:
at this point, i was less than hopeful that the python script would help. and this thread about the same problems, suggests that the process is very hit or miss, and that this issue might not be solved until the next version of maya, or a paid add-on like the license manager.
