The film was a remake of the 1967 bollywood movie darwaza (and its 2014 version) and was a remake of the 1948 bollywood film jab we meti hai, which was based on the novel with the same title written by darpan sharma. darwaza (1948) was the first part of a trilogy of films that started with the 1949 film bandish. the stories were written and directed by well-known author darpan sharma, the 1949 film bandish, the 1951 film mughal-e-jahan and the 1957 film daras.

Noorie is a 1979 Hindi movie produced by Yash Chopra, and directed by Manmohan Krishna. Noorie (Poonam Dhillon) lives in the Bhaderwah valleys with her father, Ghulam Nabi (Iftekhar) and her dog Khairoo, she has a boyfriend Yusuf (Farooq Shaikh), they decide to get married, the date is decided and preparations begin. But fate had something else in store. As another villager Bashir Khan (Bharat Kapoor) takes a liking to Noorie and approaches Noories father for her hand, to which Ghulam Nabi refuses.
Afterwards, Noorie meets Ravi in the city. To find out why she was in the city, he tells her that he will marry her. Ravi explains what he can offer in terms of a life style. The two get married and make a life. Bashir threatens Noorie multiple times to make her come back to their village. When she doesn’t, he makes his wife come to the city. He gets his daughter and wife back and Noorie is left with just her dog. She comes home where Yusuf comes for some reason and Yusuf’s gun is used to kill Bashir. Police find Noorie’s dog in Bashir’s house. Noorie is taken to police station and Khairoo is returned to her.
Noorie’s own mother has come to confront her. Noorie apologizes for the misunderstanding, and her mother’s anger turns to an acceptance of Noorie’s faith in Ravi. Just as they have reconciled, the mafia begins to murder up and down the city. In a restaurant, one of the mafia’s men accidentally kills Bashir and the mafia start chasing Noorie.
Yusuf believes he knows the killer and wants to go after him. They find him and after a shootout the assassin is arrested but not before he has shot Noorie. Noorie claims it was Yusuf who shot her. Yusuf finds this out, and Noorie is taken away. The police declare Noorie dead. Ravi can’t stand Yusuf and he is tried for Bashir’s murder. Yusuf asks if there is any way to make Noorie live, and the police say there is. However, they won’t turn her in unless Yusuf agrees to talk. Noorie watches Ravi be executed from a truck. His last words to Noorie are that she will meet him again. Yusuf, thinking that Noorie is dead, releases him, and he makes his way to Noorie. She is healed, but she is in the village where Bashir’s mother is preparing for her funeral. Now, Bashir’s death has become a problem for Noorie.
